Optical Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (O-OFDM) is eminently suitable for mitigating the multi-path and chromatic dispersion in both Visible Light Communications (VLC) Fiber Communications. We commence our discourse by surveying conception historic evolution of O-OFDM designed VLC optical fiber, culminating birth its most flexible design alternative, namely Layered Asymmetrically Clipped OFDM (LACO-OFDM). demonstrate that it intensity-modulation direct-detection aided communication systems characterize flexibility. It also shown given flexibility, subsumes a wide range schemes conceived over past two decades or so. The LACO-OFDM transmitter receiver designs strike compelling compromise between features popular (ACO-OFDM) Direct-Current-biased (DCO-OFDM). pivotal role forward error correction surveyed with objective striking coding gain versus complexity trade-off. conclude highlighting suite promising techniques capable further improving system performance, but require research. take-away message paper crystallized associated guidelines.
